Corsair Cove Amara Escape & Plunderer's Pier
From captive crew to skull-island colony in the first hour.
Story Mode in the Corsair Cove demo begins in chains — or rather, below the deck of Amara’s flagship, where your crew plots a reckless escape from one of the Crown’s most persistent pirate hunters. Amara is a Spanish-hound archetype: competent, vindictive, and convinced the Age of Piracy must end. Limbic Entertainment uses her as both narrative foil and recurring raid boss. You will meet her again after you build your pier, but the opening hour is about turning a shipwreck and thirty desperate pirates into a functioning haven named Plunderer’s Pier.
This walkthrough assumes you selected Story Mode from the demo menu and landed on the skull-shaped island with sixty-five planks in a broken hull and twenty-eight idle drifters looking for purpose.
The escape and first landing
The intro cinematic establishes stakes quickly. Crown-backed hunters scour the seas; your crew was captured; escape was messy. You wash ashore with no pier, no food chain, and no guarantee Amara believes you drowned. The game immediately points you at a half-built structure — your future pirate camp — and tells you to finish it using planks from the shipwreck.
Step 1: Connect and complete Plunderer’s Pier. Draw a path from the shipwreck storage to the camp foundation. Drifters automatically haul planks along the route. Plunderer’s Pier acts as your primary town hub: it defines building range, houses crew capacity once finished, and anchors every story beat until you found satellite camps. Do not scatter tents before the pier path exists; you need those workers moving construction materials first.
Step 2: House your crew. The completed camp supports twenty-five pirates, but you start with thirty. Place tents on cliff ledges within camp range — Corsair Cove expects vertical housing stacks, not flat grids. Each tent costs planks from your dwindling shipwreck pile, so prioritize proximity to the hub over scenic overhangs until wood production stands up.
Standing up your first production chain
Before Amara returns, you need sustainable planks and food.
Woodcutter → sawmill → warehouse. Open the materials menu and place a woodcutter in a fertile tree zone near camp range. Follow with a sawmill on an adjacent cliff face — the demo allows dramatic overhang placements connected by ramps. Finish with a warehouse in a central location so drifters can deposit planks and fetch them for later construction.
Empty the shipwreck completely once the warehouse accepts goods. Those sixty-five starter planks are a one-time gift; after they are gone, every new building depends on logs converting to planks on schedule.
Campfire → galley. Pirates eat stew. Build a campfire to process basic meals, then a galley where crew consume food. Keeping the galley near storage reduces haul time. Watch the food ticker in the UI — discontent rises fast when stew runs out, and discontent pirates brawl in the streets of Plunderer’s Pier.
Community event: Amara’s hidden soldiers
Shortly after your economy stabilizes, a cohesion event fires. Two of Amara’s soldiers were hiding among your crew, claiming they were stranded like everyone else. The game presents a moral choice with mechanical teeth:
- Execute them. You lose two pirates but take a smaller cohesion penalty. Amara’s agents cannot betray you during a future raid.
- Spare them. You keep bodies on the roster but suffer a larger cohesion hit — your crew questions leadership.
For first-time demo players, execution is the safer teaching route. Cohesion represents how unified your community feels; low cohesion triggers negative events and makes later story beats harder. Either choice advances the plot, but the wiki recommends spill their guts if you want a stable mid-game.
Moonshine, tavern, and All Hands on Deck
Morale and productivity come next. Build a moonshine still (minor food upkeep) and a tavern within walking distance — literally cliff-side next to the still if space allows. Pirates expect drink as much as stew in the long run.
Activate All Hands on Deck when the tutorial prompts it. This temporary buff boosts production fifty percent at increased upkeep cost. Use it to rush food and plank output before naval content unlocks, then disable it once stocks stabilize to save resources.
Amara’s first bombardment
Once basic needs are met, the story schedules Amara’s return whether you are ready or not. She sails into the cove, shells unfinished structures, kills two pirates, steals a tavern worker, and damages cohesion. You cannot prevent this beat — it teaches repair loops and sets up the chase motivation for your first ship.
After she leaves:
- Repair damaged buildings and replace lost tents if needed.
- Resume plank production — you will need fifteen planks minimum for the upcoming land-lover hull.
- Read the first ship and exploration guide to build the shallow pier she indirectly forced you toward.
Cliff building tips for Plunderer’s Pier
The skull island offers three distinct elevation bands: beach shallows for pier anchors, mid-cliffs for industry, and upper ridges for housing or gun towers later. Connect elevations early with paths or rope bridges so one drifter route serves multiple buildings. Placing a sawmill directly above a woodcutter with a short ramp minimizes travel time — a preview of the logistics puzzles that define Corsair Cove.
Avoid blocking the only ramp between your camp and the shipwreck path. New players often beautify the lower beach and accidentally trap workers on the wrong elevation.
What unlocks after this chapter
Completing Plunderer’s Pier setup unlocks pier construction, shipbuilding UI, captain recruitment (Teach, Kanja, Scarlet, Honorata in the demo), and the ideological compass conversation about what kind of pirate captain you intend to become. You will also see additional resource deposits — fish, salt, guano, limestone — once you expand camp influence.
For item requirements during this phase, see raw materials and crew consumables. For terrain callouts, see the demo island map. When pier placement begins, continue the walkthrough hub sequence without skipping the naval tutorial — dice combat is easier if you understand supply costs first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is Plunderer's Pier in Corsair Cove?
Plunderer's Pier is the name given to your first pirate camp on the demo island. Finishing it with shipwreck planks unlocks housing range and the main story objectives.
Should I kill or spare Amara's soldiers?
Killing them costs two pirates but minimizes cohesion loss and removes future betrayal risk. Sparing them keeps headcount at the cost of crew unity.
Can I stop Amara from attacking my camp?
No — the first bombardment is a scripted story beat. Repair afterward and push toward pier construction to fight back on your terms.
